The encryption type must match your router

WPA is what most routers use today. Choose WPA for WPA2 and WPA3 networks as well. WEP appears only on older equipment, and if the network has no password at all, choose "none".

If this setting doesn't match your router's actual configuration, the code will scan but the connection will fail. It's the first thing to check when a WiFi QR doesn't work.

SSID and password are case-sensitive

Both the network name (SSID) and the password distinguish upper from lower case. "Cafe_WiFi" and "cafe_wifi" are treated as different networks, so type them exactly as your router shows them.

If your password contains characters like a semicolon (;), comma (,), colon (:), quote ("), or backslash (\), type them as-is. The WiFi QR format requires these to be escaped, and the generator handles that for you.

Hidden networks and device differences

If your router has SSID broadcasting turned off, switch on "hidden network". Without that flag, devices won't find the network and the connection will fail.

On iPhone, pointing the camera app at the code shows a connection banner at the top. On Android, some models connect straight from the camera app while others need the WiFi QR scanner in Settings. Either way, the code itself is identical.
